I enjoy
creating artworks that revolve around nature, animals and family.
Capturing characters and the essence of life is what I find most
exciting.
I have loved to draw ever since I discovered the condensation on the windows, I've loved to paint ever since I discovered that oh-so-alluring-colourful paint cuboard and my little sister's bald head, and I have always loved to tell stories, which are such an intrinsic deep rooted part of life, where would we be without stories!?
I really love books, and many a happy child hood memory has come from reading wonderful stories and looking at beautiful illustrations, my imagination was well fed to say the least. Nothing would beat that trip down to the library! Authors such as A.A Milne, Enid Blyton, Shirley Hughes and Roald Dahl just to name a few, have been and continue to be such a huge inspiration.
I was obsessed with animation from an early age and it fueled my love for storytelling and illustration all the more. I grew up inspired by the characters from the Looney Toons and Walt Disney films, Don Bluth animations were a huge inspiration to me along with Nick Park's Wallace and Gromit and Jim Henson's the Muppets.
I grew up making a lot of objects out of cardboard, tin foil and twigs
to better aid my story telling which unfortunately resulted in a lot of eye poking, and the dining table being constantly covered, which was always fun come dinner time. Later on I found the wonders of papier Mache with the idea of creating a waterfall and woodland in my bedroom, I don't think mum and dad were all to happy with the newly aqquired stain on the celling..above the computer, where my waterfall had leaked.....
:S
I took my love for creating 3D objects and studied at the Wimbledon College of art studying BA Technical Arts and Special Effects, which meant being able to see my designs come into the 3D world, which was very exciting. Hopefully over the years I have learnt a thing or two about technical arts and I feel now I can safely say that I can build a water tight waterfall. I've also evolved away from the condensation potato people and plastcine snakes, but I still do hope that my stories and characters still contain that same childhood spirit.
